Augustus Desiré Waller

Augustus Desiré Waller (born July 18, 1856 in Paris , † March 11, 1922 in London ) was an English physiologist .

The son of Augustus Volney Waller studied medicine in Aberdeen and Edinburgh . After receiving his doctorate in Edinburgh in 1881, he worked with John Scott Burdon-Sanderson (1828–1905) at University College London .

Augustus Desiré Waller first recorded an electrocardiogram with the help of a capillary electrometer in 1887 . His work was later continued by Willem Einthoven , who further improved the instruments.

In 1903 he became professor of physiology at the University of London .
