Augustus Young (writer)

Augustus Young (* 1943 in Cork ) is an Irish doctor and writer .

Life

Young graduated after school to study medicine and worked after graduation as an epidemiologist in London .

Already at this time he began writing and published his first collections of poetry with Survival (1969) and On Loaning Hill (1972). Since then he has regularly published collections of poetry such as Dánta Grádha: Love Poems from the Irish (1975), The Credit (1980) and Lampion and His Bandits: Literature of the Cordel in Brazil (1994). The period of these works is detailed in The Oxford Companion to Irish Literature (1996).

His later publications include Lightning in Low Places (2000), Light Years (2002), Days and Nights in Hendon (2002), Storytime (2005), The Secret Gloss: A Film Play on the Life and Work of Soren Kierkegaard (2009 ), The Nicotine Cat and Other People (2009), Diversifications (2009) and Rosemaries (2009), a revision of his work of the same name from 1976. He also wrote numerous scientific writings.
