Aurelio Silva

Aurelio Salvatierra Silva (born September 26, 1866 in Talca , † August 2, 1923 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean violinist and music teacher.

As an orphan, Silva grew up with an uncle from the age of four. He took violin lessons at the Conservatorio Nacional and, at the age of eight, played works by the Belgian composer Jean-Baptiste Singelée at a benefit concert at the Teatro Municipal . After a concert tour through Chile and Ecuador, he became a student of Charles Dancla in Paris. He also attended Charles Lamoureux's orchestral class and played first violin in the Paris Opera Orchestra .

After concert tours through Europe, Silva returned to Santiago in 1893 and became principal violinist in the orchestra of the Teatro Municipal . The following year he became professor of violin at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . His most important student was the composer Pedro Humberto Allende Sarón .
