Aurora ball polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aurora Ball Polka is a polka française by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 219). The work was performed for the first time on February 22, 1859 in the Zum Sperl dance hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was written for the carnival ball of the year 1859 of the artists' association Aurora , for which the composer had also created other works in previous years, and was premiered at this event. That also explains the title name. It would be one of the last balls of the aurora . The association later dissolved and the new artist association Hesperus was formed , to which all three brothers of the Strauss family belonged. The polka was initially well received and was also played there in the summer of the same year on the composer's trip to Russia. Later it was somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 30 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
