Nightingale polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nightingale polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 222). The work was performed for the first time on May 1, 1859 in Ungers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was composed in the spring of 1859 as a pure concert piece and was premiered as such at the composer's farewell concert before he left for another trip to Russia in Unger's casino . So this is not a dance number that Strauss composed enough of in that year. In this work, the composer musically imitates the singing and flapping of the nightingale's wings . The music was well received and was then played successfully at the concerts in Russia.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 45 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
