The Karlsruhe maintenance facility was a repair shop of Deutsche Bahn . It existed from 1849 to 1997 and was located in the southern part of Karlsruhe between the eastern Kriegsstrasse (now Ludwig-Erhard-Allee) and Stuttgarter Strasse. Originally founded by the Baden State Railways as the main workshop for the maintenance of all their vehicles, the maintenance of locomotives was transferred to other repair shops before 1932. The Karlsruhe workshop specialized in the maintenance of cars. After the Second World War , the plant was 95% destroyed. After reconstruction, it was used as a maintenance workshop for passenger coaches until 1997. A number of n-cars were built in this plant , which were named Karlsruhe Head because of the plant.

A large part of the old buildings and halls were demolished in 1997. In addition to the former canteen, there is also a water tower .

The “Karlsruhe City Park” is currently being built on the site in individual phases by 2020 as a measure for area recycling . The building of the former canteen of the repair shop has been preserved and modernized. The Südwerk community center has been located in this building since 2001 .
