Bowel out
The bowing refers to the forcible pulling out of the intestines of a delinquent from the abdominal cavity , as it is described in the legend of the saints of Erasmus of Antioch († 303). Insofar as the medieval and early modern sources of German law are concerned, bowel removal appeared as a separate punishment in peasant wisdom .
In English law, guts were practiced as part of a type of execution carried out for high treason ( hanging, eviscerating, and quartering ).
