Export license plate

The export license plate (also: export license plate or customs license plate ) is an official vehicle license plate for vehicles that can move on their own and are to be exported (exported). The appearance of the license plates usually differs from ordinary license plates.

Germany

In the Federal Republic of Germany , this is a license plate with a red border on the right and a date field. This date field (with day / month / year), which is also known as the export code, indicates the last day of insurance cover. The vehicle must have left Germany by this date at the latest, as it is then without registration and insurance cover and can no longer be moved or parked on public roads.

Export license plates are only issued by the responsible vehicle registration offices for vehicles with a valid inspection sticker (§ 29 StVZO). In addition, a valid insurance policy must be presented for admission (only liability insurance is possible, is valid throughout Europe).

Vehicles with an export license plate have also been subject to tax since July 1, 2010. The previously valid limited tax-free period of up to 3 months no longer applies.

To issue an export license you need:

  • an identity card or passport of the person on whom the vehicle is to be registered,
  • a power of attorney and an identity card of the authorized person in the case of execution by third parties,
  • a fully completed special insurance confirmation card,
  • a vehicle registration document (registration certificate part II),
  • a vehicle registration certificate (registration certificate part I) (for vehicles that have been de-registered before October 1, 2005, the de-registration certificate instead),
  • sealed license plates (for registered vehicles),
  • the main inspection report (HU) for the entire period of validity of the export license plate, if necessary.

Not every country has special export license plates; vehicles to be exported are often given a “normal” temporary registration. The export numbers of the individual countries in Europe are usually similar. Many states have a red field with a date on the right margin. The information is either embossed like the rest of the sign, as in Germany, or otherwise marked on a special field (e.g. by means of an affixed strip). In the Netherlands the date is coded with a combination of letters and numbers. Some states of the European Union do not issue the usual blue euro band on the left edge of the export license plate . In many of the successor states of the former Soviet Union , the use of paper markings that are stuck to the pane is widespread.

Typical importing countries, such as B. Bulgaria work with temporary import license plates. The year of validity is shown in a red field on the right.
