Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations

The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations is a subcommittee of the newly appointed UN Economic and Social Council and was founded in 1946.

He is u. a. responsible for the accreditation of human rights and non-governmental organizations at the United Nations in New York . The decision of the subcommittee on May 17, 2006, at the instigation of Iran and with the support of Cameroon , People's Republic of China , Ivory Coast , Pakistan , the Russian Federation , Senegal and Sudan and the representative of the Vatican, to refuse accreditation of the LSVD caused a sensation . For the first time, the states of the USA and Colombia have voted for the accreditation of a gay organization. The accreditation was also supported by Germany . The LSVD would be the only association among the approx. 2,700 accredited non-governmental organizations that advocated representing the interests of gays and lesbians.
