The Ausseer Kammerhofmuseum is a local museum in Bad Aussee in the Salzkammergut in Austria . It is located in the Kammerhof.

Ausseer Kammerhof

The Kammerhof in Bad Aussee was first mentioned in a document in 1395. Construction probably began at this point in time. The building has been rebuilt several times in the course of its history, but the original structure has largely been preserved. The window and door frames as well as the chimney surrounds date from around 1530. A special feature of the Ausseer Kammerhof is the Kaisersaal with its frescoes (created 1740–1756) with landscapes from Bad Aussee, Altaussee and Grundlsee. Here Emperor Friedrich III. and Emperor Maximilian stayed. The Kammerhof served as the Salt Office building until 1926 . In 1971 the house was acquired by the market town of Bad Aussee. In the course of the reconstruction of the spa center in the same year, the original courtyard wall, all auxiliary buildings and the northern stairwell were removed.

Collection and exhibition

The systematic development of the local history museum with a focus on the history and folk culture of the Ausseerland began in 1978. Today's collection focuses on archeology, salt and local history, costume, folk music, customs, fossils and caving. As parts of the collection, finds from the salt furnace cave , a hunting station of Paleolithic people in the Dead Mountains , numerous relics from the Bronze and Iron Ages recovered in Ausseerland and finds from late Roman settlements in the Koppental and on the Altausseer Michlhallberg ( Sandling massif) are to be highlighted.
