The Friedrichshafen observation tower , also known as the Moleturm , marks the entrance to the port of Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance .

The tower was built by the city of Friedrichshafen as part of the renovation and redesign of the old pier and was inaugurated on September 24, 2000. It took eleven weeks to manufacture and four weeks to assemble. With a foundation depth of 55 meters, it reaches a height of 22.25 meters. The steel staircase leads over nine levels, the last two of which are designed as viewing platforms for around 50 people. The structure weighs over 47 tons and has a floor area of 25.6 m². It stands on eight small bored piles with a diameter of about 16 cm; the supporting structure is composed of two steel hollow profile formats with stabilizing crossings. The concreted steel pipes on the lake side are not part of the immediate structure. They only serve as protection against impact.

The tower should serve as a vertical counter element for the horizontal roofing of the opposite pier head. Rather restrained in shape and color, it should correspond with the Bauhaus architecture of the port station (today's Zeppelin Museum ). The tower is freely accessible and has no elevator.
