The Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft mbH (aws) is the funding and financing bank of the Republic of Austria .

Similar to the German Reconstruction Loan Corporation KfW, the task of the aws is to handle the federal government's company-related economic development. Austriawirtschaftsservice is owned by the Republic of Austria; the owners are the Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location and the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology .

Aws was founded in 2002 and annually awards around one billion euros in grants to the Austrian economy. The aws instruments include grants, EU grants, assumption of liability ( guarantees ) at home and abroad, low-interest ERP fund loans as well as advice and services.

history

The BÜRGES Förderungsbank was founded as early as 1954 as a federal special bank for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises.

In 1962, which was the ERP funds from the resources of the US - Marshall Plan established Help. On the basis of the agreement of July 2, 1948, Austria was given the aid supplies of the Marshall Plan and was allowed to sell them at domestic prices. The proceeds were paid into a counterpart account. This account was handed over to the control of the Austrian state on July 12, 1962, and the ERP fund was founded. The total assets are around 3 billion euros, from which low-interest loans have been granted to promote business and innovation since 1962.

In 1969 he founded the general guarantee company as a federally owned financial institute to hedge against economic risks in connection with project financing.

The innovation agency, created in 1984, was primarily dedicated to supporting economically viable ideas in high technology, research and development.

With the law establishing the Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft mbH, the Republic of Austria decided to merge the above-mentioned funding institutions in order to be able to offer the funding applicants a modern and complete service.

In this way, the aws bundles all company-related economic development funds from the federal government and, as a one-stop shop, is able to efficiently support companies from their foundation to the initial public offering. In this way, the aws makes its contribution to safeguarding Austria as a business location.

On the occasion of the economic crisis, starting in 2007, the aws applied for a full banking license in order to help SME companies, which were particularly suffering from the credit crunch , with loans. At the end of 2009, the aws withdrew the application because it no longer found it helpful.
