Austrian Foundation for Quality Management

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian Foundation for Quality Management (AFQM) is a non-profit organization from Austria , which deals with the promotion of company quality according to the EFQM model . The main concern of AFQM is to help companies and organizations achieve optimal quality management so that outstanding performance can be achieved. This is based on the Excellence Model of the EFQM for which to be traded. Self-assessment and benchmarking , i.e. comparisons with one another, also play an important role here in order to critically examine the current company quality and constantly look for opportunities for improvement. Around 800 companies are already funded and supported in this way. Since 1996, AFQM, together with Quality Austria and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy, has been awarding the State Prize for Corporate Quality to particularly committed top companies in the field of quality management.

history

The AFQM has its origins in the development of the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management), which was founded in Brussels in 1988 to operate quality management on a European level. In 1995 the AFQM was founded as the Austrian version of the EFQM as an independent association to improve company quality . Strengthening the Austrian economy through high-quality companies was one of the founding goals of AFQM. The idea of an Austrian version of the EFQM was developed by the Frey Academy Austria in Dornbirn . She also devoted herself to adapting the model of the international EFQM to the national AFQM. Today, AFQM counts itself as a member of EFQM and has also had a 3 percent stake in Quality Austria since March 23, 2004 .

Purpose of the association

The AFQM strives to establish and maintain the competitiveness of Austrian organizations in order to help them achieve success on a national and international level. In addition, the AFQM annually awards awards and prizes in the field of quality management , including the state award for corporate quality . In order to obtain these prizes, AFQM supports companies and organizations in defining rules and quality features that are required for the award. The cooperation with international institutions, which with the issue of quality management deal is for AFQM important. These include, for example, research centers, educational institutions and public institutions. In order to spread the excellence concept , AFQM organizes events which serve to give interested parties the information they need to integrate this concept into their company. Some events offer the opportunity to exchange experiences. AFQM strives to offer workshops, seminars, trainings and projects.

membership

Austrian companies and organizations can become members of the AFQM. Membership remains for one calendar year and has to be renewed afterwards. The members can use the network of AFQM, EFQM and Quality Austria to find out more about the excellence model and to implement it in their organization. Since the AFQM is not profit-oriented, personal contributions and membership fees are the only financing options of the organization. The amount of the contributions is based on the annual turnover of the company or the annual budget of the non-profit organizations . The maximum membership fee is 3,600 euros. This arises with an annual turnover or budget of more than 72 million euros. The minimum contribution, on the other hand, (500 euros) relates to companies or organizations that do not generate more than 3.7 million euros in annual sales.

organization

AFQM is a national partner organization (NPO) of EFQM and has around 50 Austrian organizations among its members. The managing director of AFQM is Franz-Peter Walder and the office of vice-president is currently carried out by Oliver Heinrich.
