The Auto Becker GmbH & Co KG was founded in 1947 by Wilhelm Becker in Düsseldorf district of Bilk founded and became insolvent of 2002.

Corporate purpose

The original purpose of the company was to operate an exchange center for used car parts. In the following year, trading in used cars followed. In addition to trading in used vehicles, Auto Becker later became an authorized dealer for numerous car manufacturers, such as Aston Martin , Bentley , Ferrari and Rolls-Royce . Over the years, Auto Becker has been an authorized dealer for over 100 automobile brands.

In 1951 Auto Becker began importing and selling new Lancia , Alfa Romeo and Chrysler / DeSoto vehicles . A year later, the term “second hand”, which was introduced in 1949 and a term commonly used in the used car market today, was registered as a registered trademark .

From 1953 on, used cars were exported, initially only to the USA and Norway . In 1956 the import of vehicles from the brands Rolls-Royce / Bentley , Abarth , MG and Bertone began , in the following year Enzo Ferrari appointed Auto Becker as general importer for Ferrari vehicles in Germany.

In 1961 the company moved to the former Schulte und Zinken paper mill in Suitbertusstrasse. There, Auto Becker marketed new cars from numerous car brands as authorized dealers as well as used cars under one roof under the name “first car supermarket in the world”. From 1970 Auto Becker brought out its own magazine with the name “auto welt”, which was located in the upper price segment of the auto magazines with a magazine price of 8.50 DM. When the IAA was canceled at short notice in 1971 , Auto Becker held its own exhibition to replace the IAA and recorded 100,000 visitors in eight days. The company was renamed Auto Becker GmbH & Co KG .

Wilhelm Becker resigned from the management in 1994 at the age of 80, Helmut Becker (* July 24, 1942; † October 2, 2018) became the sole managing director and partner of the company, which went bankrupt in 2002 .

In 2011, Quantum Immobilien AG bought the site in order to build the "Karolinger Höfe". The demolition of the former Becker site began in 2014.

Trivia

In 1980 the sons Achim and Harald Becker founded Data Becker GmbH & Co. KG .

Helmut Becker received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1993. In 2002 (the year Auto Becker went bankrupt), the liaison between Becker and Tatjana Gsell made headlines in the tabloids. The two lived together for a time in Marbella .
