Autoroute des Deux Mers
The Autoroute A61 / A62 ( Autoroute des Deux-Mers ) is one of the few French motorways that does not start in a star shape from Paris, but rather connects the Mediterranean at Sète and the Atlantic at Bordeaux at the northeastern foot of the Pyrenees as a transverse route.
It consists of the A61 - Narbonne to Toulouse (the eastern section), the Toulouse bypass and the A62 - Toulouse to Bordeaux (western section; a total of 377 km ).
It is also part of the European road network : E 80 . It is administered by the ASF .
The route follows the historic shipping connection of the Canal du Midi in the Garonne and Tarn valleys . It leads past the world heritage city of Carcassonne .
