Autumn Tears is an American band from Billerica , Massachusetts , founded in 1995 by Erika Tandy and Ted Tringo. The group's music can essentially be classified as neoclassical , but also contains elements from other styles. The so far last album The Hallowing is far removed from the neoclassical and concentrates on symphonic influences.

history

Love Poems for Dying Children

After the initial phase of writing and rehearsing, Tandy and Tringo went to West Sound Studios and recorded the result of the work. In April 1996 the debut album came out on the own independent label Dark Symphonies. Symphonic sounds and influences from ancient chants combine to form arrangements that are intended to convey intense feelings of sadness and loneliness to the audience. Bands like Dead Can Dance , Stoa and Enya are named as further influences .

The second album Love Poems for Dying Children ... Act II: The Garden Of Crystalline Dreams was released in May 1997. After that, Tandy left the band to write a book.

Since the limited edition of the debut album had long been sold out, it was reissued in 1998 in a visually and acoustically completely revised version. The new singer Jennifer LeeAnna had her first appearance on the bonus track and Tandy also returned at short notice.

After hardly anything was heard from the band for two years, with the exception of the new edition, the mini-CD Absolution was released in 1999 . Parts of the material were actually intended for other productions, which then did not materialize. Both singers can also be heard here.

In December 1999 Tandy returned to the band. In June 2000 Love Poems for Dying Children, Act III ... Winter and the Broken Angel was released and the trilogy of Love Poems before Dying Children was completed. Tandy and LeeAnna sang both solo and together on this album.

Eclipse

In 2001 Tandy moved to Texas, but still contributed her vocals to the next album. In contrast to earlier productions, this time a comparatively large number of other musicians were involved. Terran Olson (formerly with maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot ), Greg Ball (known from Long Winters Stare and Sound of Enoch ) and Laurie Ann Haus (already sang with Fell Within , Ephemeral Sin , her own band Todesbonden and other projects). In autumn 2004 the album Eclipse was completed. Tandy has now left Autumn Tears for good to devote himself to her new band Ignitor .

The Hallowing

In 2007 the album The Hallowing came out, of which the band itself "rumored" to be their last. The limited first edition was sold out in three weeks, so it was reissued. With The Hallowing , Autumn Tears wants to strip away the original neoclassical sound and concentrate more on elements of traditional classical and chamber music. Bach , Brahms , Haydn and Mahler are cited as examples of determining influences . Instead of the usual keyboards and samples, live recorded instrumentation was used, strings, woodwind instruments, oboe, French horn and opera singing.

Although no further activities are planned for the time being, Autumn Tears is not regarded as dissolved, rather as "in hibernation", as in earlier phases. As with the debut, revised editions of the second and third albums of the trilogy can be expected in the not too distant future.
