maudlin of the well
maudlin of the Well (often abbreviated as motW) was an avant-garde metal band from Boston , Massachusetts . It was characterized by a particularly atmospheric style, which was repeatedly replaced by hard (Doom) metal passages. Other influences from Maudlin Of The Well were progressive metal , death metal , space rock and indie rock .
Band history
maudlin of the Well was founded in 1996 by a variety of different musicians (including Toby Driver ) and disbanded in 2003. During this period, the band released three albums: My Fruit Psychobells ... A Seed Combustible (1999), Bath (2001) and Leaving Your Body Map (2001), the last two CDs being considered cohesive albums.
After the band broke up, many of the old band members formed the group Kayo Dot , which still exists today, but has said goodbye to the metal content of the pieces and turned to post-rock .
The central theme of the lyrics of maudlin of the Well is the so-called astral projection , a state that resembles that of conscious dreams.
maudlin of the Well tried to musically implement what the band members had felt and felt in the so-called astral plane . This is why the group often spoke of finding music rather than writing it.
While working on the fourth album, many long-term members left the band, so the group renamed itself Kayo Dot . The new CD called Choirs Of The Eye was finally released in 2003 under the new band name.
In May 2009 the album Part The Second was released. It contains some unrecorded and unreleased pieces and was funded by donations from interested fans after Toby Driver mentioned these pieces on his weblog.
