Avail is an American melodic hardcore band from Richmond , Virginia .

history

Originally from Northern Virginia, singer Tim Barry, guitarist Joe Banks, bassist Gwomper, drummer Ed Trask and Beau Beau, cheerleader, beer procurer, driver, roadie and manager, joined forces to form Avail in the 1980s moved to Richmond together in 1990. For a long time the band was under contract with Lookout Records together with several other bands from Richmond , but conflicts led to the separation, so that Avail ended up with Fat Wreck Chords .

In 2006, Jade Tree Records re-released the albums Dixie , 4am Friday and Over the James .

Since November 2006 Tim Barry has released on Suburban Home Records three solo albums with Rivanna Junction , Manchester and 28th & Stonewall as well as a CD with demo recordings with Lauren St. Demos , some of which were also used on his albums.

style

The emotional and critical lyrics of Tim Barry with their often hymn-like refrains fit into the melodies of the songs, which are influenced by Southern Rock and Mississippi Delta Blues - Country and are based on a punk rock rhythm foundation. Bernd Granz certified the band to play "Hardcore with heart, hardness and a good feeling for melodies and good breaks" in rock hard .
