Aveglocke (Cologne Cathedral)
The Aveglocke is bell 8 in the Cologne cathedral bell . It was cast in 1911 by Franz Otto from Bremen-Hemelingen and is hung in the belfry of the south tower.
The predecessor
The old ave bell from the 14th century hangs in the roof turret under the name Angelus bell .

inscription
The inscription was taken from the old Aveglocke , whereby the word “celum” was mistakenly taken over as “elum” .

Translation: Behold, O earth, which heaven bears from mother without father, it is shown as bread, is God and is raised as living flesh.
Ringing order
The ave bell rings on (non-festive) working days at 7:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. for mass and in combination with the chapter bell (bell 7) for evening mass at 6:15 p.m.
