Chapter bell
The chapter bell (also known as the Karlsglocke ) is bell 7 in the Cologne cathedral bell . It was cast in 1911 by Franz Otto from Bremen-Hemelingen and is hung in the belfry of the south tower.
The predecessor
The old chapter bell or fire bell , cast in 1621, was moved to the newly built roof turret in 1861 . Today it is no longer used and hangs on the high roof of the south transept.

Ringing order
The chapter bell rings on (non-festive) working days at 7.45 a.m. for chapter mass and in combination with the ave bell (bell 8) for evening mass at 6.15 p.m.
