Avenger ( Japanese.ア ヴ ェ ン ジ ャ ー) is an anime television series from 2003. The series can be assigned to the science fiction genre.

In the future, was Mars from the Earth settled out. The earth has since been destroyed and Mars is also threatened with a catastrophe due to the approaching moon . The Martians live in domed cities ruled by a group of early settlers led by Volg and compete for scarce resources in combat competitions. Because of the hostile environment, the settlers have become sterile and therefore have robots in the form of children around them as substitutes.

Layla, who is looking for revenge for her past, is nominated as champion of one of these cities for this fighting competition. After a fight, she leaves the city to continue her search in the company of a doll and a doll technician. Gradually it turns out that the robot doll is a real child, the hope of Mars. All threads of the plot run towards the final battle with Volg.

Origin and publications

The series, which comprises thirteen episodes, each lasting around half an hour, was created in the animation studios Xebec and Bee Train . In addition to the two studios, Bandai Visual also acted as a producer. Koichi Mashimo , who had previously worked for Noir and F , among others, took over the direction .

From October to December 2003, the television stations Bandai Channel and TV Tokyo aired the series for the first time on Japanese television. It was released on six DVDs in Japan in 2004.

The Animax Avenger TV station broadcast in parts of Asia . Bandai Entertainment released the series in English dubbing in the United States on DVD. In France she was published by Mabell.
