The Avions Fairey Fox VI was a two-seat reconnaissance and fighter aircraft of the Belgian Air Force.

development

Avions Fairey built the Fairey Fox IIM under license , a metal biplane that could be used as a fighter aircraft. A Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine with an output of 358 kW (480 hp) served as the drive . The Belgian Air Force put the first of a total of 31 machines into service in 1933. Avions Fairey developed the model further and the Fox VI was born. The engine from Hispano-Suiza now used brought an increase in performance of almost 80%. By 1939, 94 Fox VI aircraft had been delivered to the Belgian Air Force.

At the beginning of the German campaign in the west on May 10, 1940, the Belgian Air Force still had around 110 operational Fairey Fox fighter, reconnaissance and light bomber aircraft in nine squadrons ( Escadrilles ).

variants

The Avions Fairey Fox III was developed from the prototype of the Fox II. It was a reconnaissance and combat aircraft with an Armstrong Siddeley Serval radial engine that developed 254 kW (340 hp). 12 copies were built.

The Avions Fairey Fox IIIC was a further development of the Fox II with a closed cockpit. One example was built as a Fox IIICS with double rudder. A total of 48 pieces were built.

The Avions Fairey Fox IIIS was a dual control training aircraft. 4 planes were built.

The Avions Fairey Fox V was the prototype of the Fox VI with a 485 kW (650 PS) Hispano-Suiza 12Ybrs engine.

The Avions Fairey Mono Fox VII was a single-seat fighter aircraft. Because of the large lower hull cooler, it was nicknamed the kangaroo. The aircraft reached a top speed of 375 km / h. The armament consisted of six MG. Two of them were housed in the fuselage, the other four were in the upper wing. Two prototypes were built.

The Avions Fairey Fox VIII was an improved version of the Fox VI. 12 copies were made.
