Avra Theodoropoulou ( Greek Αύρα Θεοδωροπούλου ; born November 3, 1880 in Edirne , Greek Adrianopolis, Ottoman Empire ; † January 20, 1963 ) was a Greek women's rights activist , music critic and writer.

Life

Avra Theodoropoulou was one of the leading figures in the Greek women's movement . Her numerous activities included her activity as a musician, during which she taught piano and music history from 1900 to 1957 . She was very active as a journalist and wrote a number of musicological studies.

Theodoropoulou worked for numerous magazines and newspapers. She spoke French, English and German. Her literary works include short stories and plays.

Due to her strong social commitment, she volunteered as a nurse in the wars from 1897 to 1940. She founded a number of cultural and social organizations. Of particular importance was her role in the Greek women's movement. In 1920 she founded the “Association for Women's Rights”, which she represented externally at international congresses for decades. From 1923 she was also editor-in-chief of the magazine Der Kampf der Frau , which the association published.
