Avraham Biran

Avraham Biran (* 1909 in Rosh Pina , Ottoman Empire , † September 16, 2008 in Jerusalem ) was an Israeli archaeologist.

In 1934 he made his masters at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore , in 1935 he received his doctorate. He was director of the Israel Department of Antiquities and Museums . In 1966 he began excavating at Tel Dan , where he discovered the Tel Dan inscription in 1993 . He was the director of the Nelson Glueck School of Biblical Archeology at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion .

In 2002 he was awarded the Israel Prize .
