Awad al-Bandar

Awad Hamad al-Bandar as-Saʿdun (born January 2, 1945 in Sadun ; † January 15, 2007 in al-Kazimiyya near Baghdad ; Arabic عوض حامد البندر السعدون, DMG ʿAwaḍ Ḥamad al-Bandar as-Saʿdūn ) was an Iraqi judge.

biography

In 1967 he completed his law studies and joined the Baʿth party , which a year later became the sole ruling party in Iraq. In 1983 he became chairman of the Iraqi Revolutionary Court , which he held until the Revolutionary Courts were dissolved in 1991.

Awad al-Bandar was convicted of participating in the 1982 Dujail massacre , in which 148 Shiites were killed. In 1984, as presiding judge, he sentenced all the defendants to death . He was originally on January 7, 2007 executed will. The death sentence was finally carried out on January 15, 2007.
