It produces ion implantation systems , including high and medium current implanters , as well as high energy implanters and curing systems that are used in the manufacture of semiconductor chips. The company was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, USA.
In 2000, Eaton Corporation spun off its semiconductor manufacturing equipment business under the name Axcelis Technologies.
On December 4, 2012, Axcelis Technologies decided to give up its Plasmastrip business and to sell the corresponding business area, including the technology of its Integra product line, to Lam Research .
