Beverly is a city in Essex County in Massachusetts , United States . Founded in 1626 by Roger Conant , the city with almost 40,000 inhabitants is located directly north of the county seat of Salem .
Beverly is part of the Essex National Heritage Area . The city is home to Endicott College and the Rykodisc record label .
