Axel Nickolaus (* 1951 in Göttingen ) is a German photographer and photo journalist. His passion is magical photography. In picture books and exhibitions, it is above all landscapes and travel reports in which he artistically deals with nature and the living environment of people. In addition, Nickolaus is dedicated to teaching photography in evening courses and weekend events.

Career

After completing a commercial apprenticeship in his hometown, he studied photo design with Meyer-Veden at the Muthesius School in Kiel and graduated in 1987 with the diploma “photo designer”. As an employee in the cultural department of the Kieler Nachrichten, he created images of artists and cultural workers. His pictures especially shaped the public image of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival for a quarter of a century. Nickolaus has his family center of life in Berlin, without having given up his long professional home in Kiel. He is still active as a photographer in Schleswig-Holstein today.

In addition to his mainly journalistic work, he has also portrayed companies and charities as a PR and studio photographer. Today, the extensive cultural and journalistic experience combined with the perspectives of a freelance photographer form the basis of his teaching at public institutions. Since 1983 in Kiel and since 2012 also in Berlin, these guide his participants through the facets of photography. Since 2015 his teaching activities have been flanked by the portal "fotowork24" for students and course participants, which was developed as an information and work platform. Axel Nickolaus' artistic work in the field of landscape reportage and portrait photography was self-published. Illustrated books in individual production, prints and prints show an overview of his work.

The impressions of his study trips through France, China and America are summarized in folders, which are disseminated in exhibitions and books designed by him.
