Axel Wallensköld
Axel Gabriel Wallensköld (born May 10, 1864 in Saint Petersburg , † March 22, 1933 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish Romanist and Medievalist .
life and work
Wallensköld studied in Helsinki and Paris (with Gaston Paris ). At the University of Helsinki he was a lecturer from 1891 to 1905, from 1905 to 1915 associate professor and from 1915 to 1929 (as successor to Werner Söderhjelm ) holder of the chair for Romance philology. From 1902 to 1925 he was president of the Neuphilologische Verein / Société Néophilologique in Helsinki, which published the journal Neuphilologische Mitteilungen .
Wallensköld held numerous public offices. He was committed to the spread of the planned language Ido .
