The Aydınlık Türkiye Partisi , ATP , ( German : Party of Enlightened Turkey ) was a political party in Turkey .
history
Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş is the son of the founder and former chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party ( MHP ) Alparslan Türkeş . When Alparslan Türkeş died on April 4, 1997, there was a power struggle within the party. There were two camps, one wanted his son Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş as the new chairman, the other the former Secretary General of the MHP Devlet Bahçeli . Finally, Devlet Bahçeli was elected as the new chairman at an extraordinary party conference. Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş resigned from the MHP and founded the ATP on February 27, 1997.
Election results
On July 22, 2007, the early elections to the 23rd Grand National Assembly of Turkey took place. 100,982 voters ( 0.29 percent ) gave their vote to the ATP.
In the same year, the founder of the ATP Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş ran for MHP MP and was elected to parliament.
