Aykut Zahid Akman

Aykut Zahid Akman (* 1958 in Ankara ) is a Turkish civil servant.

Life

In 1984 he graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. He then attended the Institute of Social Sciences in the University of Istanbul and obtained his master's degree in 1987. Between 1988 and 1992 he ran his own agency for communication and public relations.

From 1993 to 2000 he was a newscaster in Ankara for the AKP-affiliated television station Kanal 7 and then until 2003 for Kanal 7 in Washington DC, United States. According to media reports, he is said to have donated funds from the Islamic charity Deniz Feneri (lighthouse) from Germany for Kanal 7 .

From July 2005 to June 2009 he was President of the Supreme Radio and Television Council and at the same time the regulatory authority RTÜK . He was therefore referred to as the "highest media watchman and top censor in Turkey". Akman is considered a confidante of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan .

In addition, from August 2003 to July 2006 he was on the board of the "Offenbacher & Frankfurter Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft eG" (OFWG). In September 2008 he was investigated on suspicion of fraud and delaying bankruptcy.

In June 2013 he became president of the Televizyon Yayıncıları Derneği (TVYD) broadcasting company in Istanbul, which was founded in 1999.
