Artjom Sergejewitsch Owetschkin ( Russian Артём Сергеевич Овечкин ; born July 11, 1986 in Berdsk , Novosibirsk Oblast ) is a Russian road cyclist.

Athletic career

Artyom Ovetschkin was third in the prologue of the Russian stage race Way to Pekin in 2007 and later he was able to win the fourth and fifth stages; in the overall ranking he finished fifth. The following year he won the bronze medal in the individual time trial at the U23 European Championships in Stresa . At the UCI Road World Championships for the U23 in Varese , Ovechkin was tenth in the U23 class time trial. In 2009 he became the Russian time trial champion. Together with Nikolai Trussow he won the pair time trial Duo Normand . In 2015 he was again the Russian time trial champion and won a stage of the Tour of Slovenia . In 2016 he won the team time trial of the Settimana Internazionale with his team Gazprom-RusVelo .

2018 was Owetschkins' most successful year to date: he won the overall rankings of the Tour of Antalya and the Tour de Langkawi as well as a stage of the Tour of China II . He also won his third title as Russian time trial champion.

At the 2013 Russian Road Championships, Ovechkin's doping test was positive for fenoterol and he was banned for six months.
