Ayr Castle
Ayr Castle is an abandoned castle in Ayr in the Scottish administrative division of South Ayrshire . It was once considered a royal castle, but nothing is left of it today.
history
1197, King William the Lion built the castle and in 1205 he created a Burgh in Ayr. The castle was captured by the troops of the Norwegian king Håkon Håkonsson in 1263 .
Robert the Bruce had the castle, which had been captured by the English under the leadership of Henry Percy, 1st Baron Percy , burned down. In 1542 the rebuilt castle was garrisoned by French troops and appears to have been demolished between 1650 and 1651 before it was taken by Oliver Cromwell .
