Bà Nà Hills Cable Car

Bà Nà Hills Cable Car ( viet. Cáp treo Bà Nà ) is a gondola lift to the Bà Nà Hills Mountain Resort about 25 km west of Đà N Vietnamng in Vietnam .

The Bà Nà Hills were developed into a resort by the French colonial power at the beginning of the twentieth century, as the climate is drier and on average 10 ° C cooler than in Đà Nẵng. Since 1945, however, the facilities fell into disrepair and were forgotten. The Bà Nà Hills were not revived until the economic upswing after 1990. At the end of the 1990s, Doppelmayr built a short group orbit from the old villas to the mountain summit. In the course of the rapid economic development and the publicly subsidized tourism, a private investor took over the expansion of the Bà Nà Hills into a modern resort in 2007 and commissioned Doppelmayr to build the new Bà Nà Hills Cable Car.

The gondola, which opened in 2009, serves as a feeder to the Bà Nà Hills Mountain Resort with its three hotels, which is located on the 1487 m high mountain top, the Linh Ung Pagoda, built in 2004 with a 27 m high Buddha statue, and various tourist facilities. It makes access much easier compared to the 18 km long, steep, narrow and winding mountain road. In addition, the gondola lift, with a transport capacity of 1500 people per hour, has a significantly higher performance than transport on the mountain road by bus or even by car.

The Suoi Mo Station, less than an hour's drive from Da Nang, is located on the DT 602 road at the eastern foot of the Bà Nà Hills. From here the first section of the cable car goes to the Bà Nà station at an altitude of 1356 m, the second section goes from the neighboring Debay station to the Morin station at the Morin Hotel, which is practically on the summit.

The first section has an inclined length of 5042 m and overcomes a height difference of 1292 m. This makes it the longest section of a gondola lift in the world and also the one with the greatest difference in altitude. The operator of the cable car and the resort has secured two entries in the Guinness Book of Records for this.

The travel time in the first section is around 15 minutes at a maximum speed of 6 m / s (21.6 km / h). There are 94 Omega IV tropical LWI gondolas supplied by CWA for 8 people , which are housed in a garage in the valley station. The drive of the revolving hoisting rope is located in the Bà Nà station, the tensioning device in the Suoi Mo station. The section has 22 columns.

The second section replaced the previous group orbit, the capacity of which was no longer sufficient. It has a sloping length of 698 m, 4 supports and overcomes a height difference of 131 m. For this section, the operator chose 21 gondolas for 8 people of the different-looking Konus 8 LWI type from CWA, which will be housed in the mountain station. This section also has a delivery rate of 1500 p / h. The travel time is 3.5 minutes at a speed of 5.0 m / s (18 km / h). The drive is located in the lower debay station, the clamping device in the mountain station.

Because of the frequent thunderstorms during the monsoon season, two lightning protection ropes are stretched over the hoisting ropes in both sections.
