FK Bačka 1901 (official name in Serbian : Фудбалски клуб Бачка 1901, Fudbalski klub Bačka 1901 ) is a Serbian football club from Subotica and is considered one of the oldest football clubs in Serbia . The club currently plays in the 4th division.
history
The club was founded in 1901, when Subotica was part of Austria-Hungary , as Bácska Szabadkai Athlétikai Club ( Subotica Athletic Club Bačka) and consisted mainly of Croatian or Bunjewatz players, but Serbs also played in the club. Between 1923 and 1925, FK Bačka took part in the Yugoslav football championship in 1901 under the then name JSD Bačka-Jugoslovensko sportsko društvo . When the German Reich invaded Yugoslavia in World War II in 1941, the Batschka and with it Subotica were annexed by Hungary . This forced the club to play in the Hungarian 3rd Hungarian League , where it first started there in 1944.
After the victory of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army in late 1944, the club was renamed HAŠK Građanski ( Hrvatski akademski športski klub Građanski ). At the insistence of the new Yugoslav government, all clubs whose club name or coat of arms indicated a certain ethnic group had to remove it. So the association changed its name again and was henceforth called FD Sloboda, with all parts of the name that referred to the Croatian and Bunjevazian origins were removed. Finally, another name change to FD Zvezda followed. In 1963 it took its old name again.
