Bardardalur

The Bárðardalur is a valley in the north of the island of Iceland . It extends around 45 kilometers inland to the Sprengisandur .

The narrow valley is crossed by the Skjálfandafljót river , which plunges over some waterfalls such as Aldeyjarfoss and Goðafoss . Along both sides of the river there is a road up into the highlands , on the left the Bárðardalsvegur vestri, road 842, which then becomes Sprengisandsleið, road F26.

The Bárðardalur takes its name from the landlord Bárður Bjarnarson.
