Bärbel Kozian

Bärbel Kozian (born November 27, 1940 in Schivelbein ) is a German politician and former member of the People's Chamber and the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 1998 she left the PDS and is now a member of the CDU .

Professional activity

Kozian attended the general education eight-grade school in Boitin and later in Tarnow from 1947 to 1955. She then completed an apprenticeship as a stenographer at the Güstrow trade school until 1957. She then worked as a secretary at the general vocational school in Bützow until 1960. Subsequently, Kozian was a housewife until 1967, presumably through motherhood. She then worked again as a secretary until 1978, this time at the LPG Tarnow. In 1976 she graduated from the 10th grade through the adult education center. In 1978 Kozian was appointed full-time mayor of Boitin. She held this office until May 1990. After that she continued to be mayor, now on a voluntary basis, until Boitin was incorporated into Tarnow in 1999.

Bärbel Kozian is married and has three children.

Political activity

Kozian worked on the Boitin City Council from 1969. In 1990 she ran for the first free Volkskammer elections for the PDS and moved into parliament as a member of constituency 14 (Schwerin district) on the list of her party. She ran for the PDS in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the state elections in October 1990 and entered parliament via the state list. She repeated this success again in 1994. In the first and second electoral terms, she was chairman of the Petitions Committee. In 1998 Kozian left the PDS. In the following years she became a member of the CDU. She now holds honorary posts in this party as well. She is an assessor on the district board of the CDU district association Güstrow and assessor on the state board of the Seniors' Union of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
