The Bear Monument of Mildensee recalls the eastward expansion under Otto the Great by the Margrave Gero and was during the time of the Third Reich built.

History and description

The memorial consists of a cast metal figure of a bear with a raised right front paw on a brick base. It was erected in the center of the village in 1938.

The bear figure was presumably made in the Kurek art foundry in Mägdesprung . On the front of the base is a colored plate with the coat of arms of the House of Anhalt , on the back there is a cast plate with the inscription: “Thousand-year-old Anhalt founded in 938 by Margrave Gero”. The monument was renovated in 1999.
