Bòrd na Gàidhlig

Bòrd na Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic: [pɔːrˠt̪ nə kaːlɪikʲ]) is the executive public body of the Scottish Government responsible for matters relating to the Scottish Gaelic language . It was founded in 2003 with its headquarters in Inverness . It must not be confused with Comunn na Gàidhlig or An Comunn Gàidhealach , which are older institutions.

Duties and duties

Problems

Often, the advice of the Bòrd is ignored by public institutions and administrations or authorities are hostile to the institution. The following measures were taken to strengthen the corporation:

  • Mandatory guidelines by the Bòrd for local authorities for Gaelic teaching in middle schools

  • Power to decide which Gaelic projects are funded

history

In 2006, Bòrd na Gàidhlig was entrusted with the task of implementing the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 and specifically taking on the task of securing the status of the Gaelic language as the official language of Scotland, which, like the English language, should be respected. The Bòrd is a cornerstone of the Scottish Government's implementation of the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages ​​in Scotland.
