Bølingen ( Norwegian for herd ) is a group of small islands off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . They are located just off the north side of the Publications Ice Shelf in the southeastern part of Prydz Bay . The group consists of the Indre Bølingen and the Ytre Bølingen .
They were discovered and roughly mapped in February 1935 by the Norwegian Klarius Mikkelsen (1887 - unknown), captain of the whaling ship Torlyn . Norwegian cartographers, who also named them, mapped them in detail using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 .
