Bookworm

Bookworm stands for:

  • the larvae of various rodent beetle species whose habitat is originally dry deadwood and which also attack furniture, books or dry food such as bread in the human environment. A typical representative is the bread beetle
  • a slang metaphor for people who read a lot, see bibliophilia
  • a term of ridicule from the middle of the 18th century for people who did not agree with the media and mentality changes of the era
  • a painting by Carl Spitzweg from 1850, see The Bookworm
