Citizens Hospital Church

The former Bürgerspitalkapelle , also called Erasmuskapelle, stands south of the parish church in Bleiburg as an extension of the former Bürgerspital. It was built in 1766 together with the new building for the citizens' hospital founded in 1554. After a long period of neglect and use as a storage room, the chapel was given to the Protestant parish in 1967 in exchange for the obligation to preserve it. The sacred building is also used for cultural events in the municipality.

The gable tower with onion helmet rises above the east facade, which is structured with plastered corner cuboids and horizontal plaster strips. In the three-bay nave, a needle cap barrel rests on pilasters . The east gallery is vaulted under a flat barrel with stitch caps. The church has a straight ending in the west. The painting dates from the time it was built (1766). In the barrel, the martyrdom of St. Erasmus and a scene with St. Alexius are depicted in two medallion fields . The paintings in the stitch caps symbolize the Patientia and the Caritas . A landscape with Saint Notburga and horsemen is depicted on the gallery parapet . The baroque sacrificial altar from the third quarter of the 18th century bears a statue of St. Erasmus on clouds, which is flanked by the sculptures of John of God and St. Notburga. A canvas painting from 1766 shows the founder Erasmus Kumesch with the construction plan. The pews are from the same year.
