The Office for Fortification Buildings (BBB, formerly Bureau for Fortification Buildings ) was an authority in the Federal Military Department in Bern .

Under Colonel Johann Jakob Lochmann as the Genie's weapons chief , the BBB was founded on May 1st, 1886 with Major (later Colonel) Jules Folly as chief. From 1906 to 1921 it was headed by Colonel Julius Rebold. After the First World War , the BBB was closed in 1921. After the Nazis came to power in Germany , it was reopened on January 1, 1935 before the Second World War under Colonel Felix Peter.

The BBB was responsible for the construction of fortifications and obstacles as well as the development of standards and guidelines. A large number of engineers and technicians from the construction, electrical, mechanical, ventilation and telecommunications industries were available for this purpose. Hundreds of fortresses and other underground structures were built across Switzerland on behalf of the National Defense Commission.

With the 1951 troop order, the BBB was merged into the fortification section of the new department for genius and fortifications under Colonel Divisionist Charles Rathgeb .
