Bra

Bra

The bra (also known as bra or lifting for short ) is a piece of clothing associated with lingerie that supports the female breast from below without covering the nipples . It is reinforced by wire or other hard material to ensure the support function.

The term overlaps partly with that of the BH ouvert , which is defined by the uncovered unit of the nipples, and not by the support function from below. Unreinforced items of laundry that have more or less large openings on the nipples are also referred to as bra crotchless.

The bust lifting or BH ouvert emphasize secondary sexual characteristics and are therefore to be distinguished from the nowadays usual brassieres that conceal the breast.
