The Foundation for the Development of Small Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and Far East "Batani" (Russian Фонд развития коренных малочисленных народов Севера, Сибири и Дальнего Востока "Батани" ) is a non-governmental organization , working for the rights of indigenous small peoples engaged in Russia .

Its goals are to support the indigenous peoples for the preservation and protection of their livelihoods, including traditional pastures as well as hunting and fishing grounds. In addition, agreements are to be reached between industrial companies, state municipal structures and the indigenous inhabitants.

history

The “Batani” foundation was established in 2004 by RAIPON , the umbrella organization for indigenous peoples of Northern Russia, and the Danish social enterprise TGK Consult during the economic forum in Saint Petersburg . Pawel Suljandsiga became chairman .

The foundation organizes training courses for representatives of indigenous peoples so that they can better represent their rights. It also offers a forum for representatives of oil, natural gas and industrial companies to meet representatives of the indigenous population. Batani works regularly with the Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, and in recent years also with BP Russia, Exxon Neftegas Ltd. and others. It grants microcredit to organizations and individuals. Since 2009, together with RAIPON, it has awarded the Vitus Bering Prize (Премия им. Витуса Беринга) every four years to social organizations, companies and politicians for the support of indigenous peoples.

Batani has been a corresponding member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2008 .

On March 11, 2016, the Foundation was registered with the Russian Ministry of Justice as an “ Organization in the Function of a Foreign Agent ”. She stated that she had not received any foreign funding.
