The B3 Bay 90 were three-axle compartment wagons that were originally designed as 1st and 2nd class wagons with sheet no. 007 were built for the Palatinate Railways. With the introduction of 4th class in 1907, the first class compartment was reclassified to second class while maintaining the seating arrangement and the coaches were given a new category designation.

As with other regional railways, the compartment cars also had the largest share of passenger cars on the Palatinate Railways . In the years between 1890 and 1915, a total of 513 three-axle compartment cars were procured across seven types. So with the sheet no. 007 a total of 8 pieces in the years 1890 and 1891.

Constructive features

Underframe

The frame: The car was made entirely of iron and was riveted together from rolled sections. The outer side rails were U-shaped with outward-facing flanges. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV, the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. The wagons were equipped with rod buffers with an installation length of 650 mm, the buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm.

The wagons had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron with the short, straight design. The axles were stored in sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies and a wheel diameter of 1,014 mm. The middle axis could be moved sideways.

The cars were braked with a hand-spindle brake in the raised brakeman's cab. In addition, a pneumatic brake of the type grinder was installed.

Car body

The car body framework consisted of a wooden frame work. It was clad with sheet metal on the outside and wood on the inside. The side walls were slightly indented on the underside. The wagons had a flat arched roof with a skylight structure . The raised, closed brakeman's cab was accessible from both sides and integrated into the roof as an extension of the skylight structure.

The interior had a total of four compartments with upholstered benches: one in 1st class with 5 seats and three in 2nd class with 7 seats each. The row of compartments was seen from the brakeman's cab side: II, II, I, II. The cars had a total of 4 toilets , each compartment was connected separately to one of these by a side door.

Furnishing

The wagons were heated by steam . The ventilation took place via flaps in the area of ​​the skylight structure.

The lighting was carried out by gas lamps , the storage containers with a total volume of 910 liters hung on the frame in the longitudinal direction of the car.
