BARTOC
BARTOC ( Basel Register of Thesauri, Ontologies & Classifications ) is a database of knowledge organization systems developed by the University Library of Basel . The aim of BARTOC is the documentation of knowledge organization systems (KOS) such as classifications , thesauri and authority files. This is intended to achieve greater visibility and highlight their functions. They should also be searchable and comparable, and promote the exchange of knowledge. In contrast to other standard data directories, BARTOC includes all types of KOS, regardless of subject area, language, publication format and accessibility. It also collects other authority data directories.
BARTOC was created to create a general bibliography and thus to convey information literacy. Since it was founded in November 2013 until June 2017, BARTOC has collected information from more than 2,700 terminology and currently 81 terminology registers. A comparative study of terminology types and terminology registers showed that BARTOC contains a relatively sufficient amount of metadata.
BARTOC is available in 20 languages and the editors are spread across nine countries across Europe. BARTOC is recognized by the International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO). For further technical development, BARTOC cooperates with the coli-conc project. The website and database design is based on Drupal . The content is available as free content under the Public Domain Dedication and License (PDDL).
