The International Society for Knowledge Organization ( ISKO ) is an international scientific association for research into the organization of knowledge. The society was founded in 1989 and currently has around 600 members worldwide.

The knowledge organization considers methods and systems for organizing information and knowledge , for example databases , libraries , dictionaries , encyclopedias , taxonomies , classifications , wikis . Due to the interdisciplinary subject of the knowledge organization, the members come from different scientific disciplines such as information science , computer science , linguistics , philosophy, etc. a.

The activities of the ISKO include

  • organizing international conferences every 2 years
  • the organization of national and regional conferences on special topics
  • the publication of the scientific journal Knowledge Organization ( KO ), formerly International Classification , founded in 1974 by Ingetraut Dahlberg
  • the publication of the series Advances in Knowledge Organization ( AKO ) and Knowledge Organization in Subject Areas ( KOSA )
  • promoting the exchange of information between members via the ISKO News newsletter .
