The BBC Etzella is a Luxembourgish basketball club from Ettelbrück . With a total of 15 championship titles and 24 cup victories since the founding year 1934 for men and eight championship titles and seven cup wins for women, the club is one of the most successful clubs in Luxembourg basketball.

history

The club was founded on August 5, 1934 as "Association sportive Catholique Ettelbruck" (ACSE), ie 3 years after the first basketball section was founded in Bettembourg (Luxembourg). The Catholic youth association tried to offer a sport in order to be able to stand up to the competition of other youth organizations such as the scouts or football associations. So basketball appeared to be a suitable sport. The game is played in the “larch” on a meadow covered with a layer of ash.

After a few first test and friendly matches to acquire the practice and theory of basketball, the ASCE played in the Luxembourg championship and in cup games.

In the war years 1941–1945, the ASCE, like all other Catholic associations in Luxembourg, was dissolved by the Nazi invaders and their assets were confiscated.

In October 1945, a new, non-denominational basketball federation was set up in Luxembourg. Since everything was lacking in Ettelbruck, a merger with the local football club FC Etzella was sought and approved, so the ASCE became the "BBC Etzella". From then on, the game was played on the asphalt school yard in Ettelbruck. In 1951, both sports sections decided to go their separate ways again.

The BBC achieved its first major success in 1954 when it won the “Coupe de la Souveraine”. The golden years followed, in 1955 for the first time national champion, in 1956 the first "double". In 1958, the BBC Etzella had the privilege of playing the first game in the European Cup against the Belgians from Royal IV, Ben Meyers scored the first points in the history of the European Cup.

In 1962 the club was named the best Luxembourg sports team after progressing in the European Cup against SISU Copenhagen . In 1967, with the newly built sports hall Am Däich , a roofed and weather-independent sports facility was finally found.

The women's team, which has existed since 1971, has so far recorded eight championship titles and seven cup wins.
