The BC Wetzikon is a Swiss basketball club from Wetzikon in the canton of Zurich .

history

In 1969, on the initiative of the cantonal school teacher Marcel Lüthi, who taught at the Cantonal School in Zurich Oberland (KZO), basketball was played for the first time in Wetzikon instead of netball . The actual basketball club was founded in the early 1970s as BC KZO Wetzikon , and in 1973 the club took part in the championships for the first time.

In the 1980s, the American Charlie McCormick managed the fortunes of the club and the club rose to the National League B for the first time at the beginning of the decade, but without being able to stay there. In the 1990s, Wetzikon played with the women's and men's teams in the National League A, the highest Swiss league. In 1996, the women's Fanion team achieved the greatest success in the club's history by winning the Swiss Cup , when they defeated the then favorite Pallacanestro Bellinzona . At that time, Wetzikon was the largest club in the ProBasket regional association with 13 teams (three today).

Today the first team of the Wetzikon basketball club plays in the fifth-class 3rd division, after playing with two teams in the National League A at the end of the 1990s with a budget of CHF 450,000.
